Awareness

A huge part of our mission is to raise awareness about postpartum depression / anxiety (PPD/PPA).  Statistics show that 1 in 7 women will suffer some form of PPD/PPA.  This means that thankfully about 85% of new mothers will not experience PPD/PPA.  This also means that a large portion of our society has not been affected by PPD/PPA and therefore, may not be fully aware or informed about what it is and its potentially devastating effects on a mother's life.

An important way we raise awareness of PPD/PPA is by distributing our Pre/Postpartum Support Group fliers to OB/GYNs, Labor & Delivery Hospitals and Pediatricians in the DFW area.  We are proud to say these fliers continue to be included in patient lobbies, prenatal packets for expectant moms and new mom postpartum packets.

In February 2016, we co-hosted a private screening of documentary "The Dark Side of the Full Moon" for maternal healthcare professionals, including OB/GYNs, OB/GYN Medical Students, Pediatricians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Therapists, and Birth & Postpartum Doulas & Midwives.  The screening was followed by panel discussion.

From 2011 - 2015, we hosted an annual "Motherhood Matters" Pregnancy & New Mom Expo for the main purpose of raising awareness.  With a variety of exhibitors, our expo provided valuable resources to new and expectant mothers.  In addition, educational seminars were given by presenters, including several related to PPD/PPA.

Wings for Wellness has also participated in other wellness expos in the past in an effort to raise awareness, including the 2015 and 2016 DallasChild Baby Fair at Stonebriar Mall in Frisco.

Wings for Wellness spoke at The Warren Center on April 30th, 2015 during their staff training to help their staff better understand the needs and emotions of a woman and her family in the midst of PPD.

We also created Awareness T-shirts and ball caps which were given away to our expectant / new mom expo attendees.
